Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya - F1 Grandstand Guide

Where to sit at Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya for the F1: grandstand recommendations, the best views, hospitality options and how to get there on race day.

Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya stands in Montmeló, near Barcelona in Spain, and has hosted Formula 1 and MotoGP races since opening in 1991. The venue adopted its current name in 2013 following a sponsorship agreement. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the track spans 4.655 kilometres and features 16 corners linked by two straights, with the longest straight measuring 1.047 kilometres. The layout blends fast and slow-speed sections with notable elevation changes, making it a popular destination for testing and racing alike. The circuit offers fourteen grandstands positioned throughout the venue to suit different viewing preferences. The Main Grandstand overlooks the pit straight on two levels and remains one of the best vantage points, allowing spectators to witness the grid atmosphere and monitor pit lane activity. Other key viewing locations include Grandstand K at the braking zone into Turn 1, an overtaking hotspot; Grandstand N opposite the fast Turn 8 and 9 section; Grandstand L on a hillside offering views across multiple corners; and Grandstand G within the stadium section. Three grandstands, the Main, M and i, provide weather cover. All numbered seats feature moulded plastic construction with backrests for added comfort. General admission areas with grassy banks are scattered around the circuit, particularly in the southern section, offering accessible viewing on a first-come, first-served basis. Located 32 kilometres from Barcelona city centre and 18 kilometres from the coast, the circuit welcomes approximately 140,000 spectators. Road access via the C-17 and AP-7 routes leads to 32,000 parking spaces; advance booking is essential as on-site purchases are not available during race weekends. The Sagalés bus service also connects the venue to Barcelona. Race weekends typically occur in hot summer conditions, so spectators attending general admission areas should prepare for limited shade and warm weather.

Best grandstands at Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya

Main Grandstand

The Main Grandstand faces the pit straight and is one of the finest vantage points at the circuit. Split into two levels and covered for weather protection, it offers views of the grid pre-race, the dramatic engine start with 22 Formula 1 cars revving simultaneously, and constant pit lane activity. TV screens flanking the pits keep you informed of action elsewhere on the circuit, making this an excellent choice for comprehensive race viewing.

Grandstand K

Located at the end of the main straight, Grandstand K overlooks the heavy braking zone into Turn 1, one of the most dramatic overtaking spots on the circuit. The late braking and high-speed approach here make it a prime seat for witnessing decisive passing moves.

Grandstand A

Covered and positioned in the middle of the sweeping opening S-section, Grandstand A offers views of the braking zone into Turn 1 and the fast approach. This is another prime overtaking zone where you will see frequent action and impressive driving moves.

Grandstand N

Overlooking Turns 8 and 9, Grandstand N is positioned at one of the fastest and most impressive sections of the circuit. Cars carry enormous speed through this fast right-hander, pushing aerodynamic grip to the limit before launching onto the back straight, making it a spectacular vantage point.

Grandstand G

One of the most popular viewing spots at Barcelona, Grandstand G sits in the heart of the stadium section. Higher rows provide views of several corners in quick succession as well as the pit lane entry, allowing you to follow multiple parts of the lap at once.

General admission

General admission tickets grant access to various viewing areas around the circuit, particularly in the southern section, with grassy banks providing elevated views on a first-come, first-served basis. The Turns 7, 8 and 9 area is a favourite for many general admission fans, as cars flow uphill through those corners and into one of the fastest bends on the circuit. All numbered grandstands feature moulded plastic seats with seatbacks, offering greater comfort than general admission for what can be a long, hot summer day.

Getting to Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya

The circuit is situated just 32 km from Barcelona city centre and 18 km from the Barcelona coast. Sagalés buses provide direct transport from Barcelona city centre to the circuit, making this a convenient option for those without a car.

If you are driving, take the C-17 road (Montmeló exit) or the AP-7 toll road, exiting at junctions 13, 14 or 15. The circuit provides 32,000 parking spaces near the race track. Parking must be booked in advance, as tickets cannot be purchased on site during the event. Because the track is very large, establish which car park you need to head to before arriving.

Races typically take place in hot summer conditions. General admission areas offer limited shade, so bring sun protection, plenty of water and wear light, breathable clothing. All grandstand seats are numbered and fitted with moulded plastic seatbacks, which provide more comfort than general admission during a long day in the heat.
