Sepang International Circuit - F1 Grandstand Guide

PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit in Sepang, Malaysia has established itself as a premier motorsport venue since its opening to the public on 9 March 1999. Designed by Hermann Tilke and completed in just 14 months, the circuit was among the first of Formula One's new generation of modern Grand Prix tracks and set the template for many venues that followed. It has since hosted major international racing events including the F1 Grand Prix, MotoGP, Super GT, the Superbike World Championship and the Endurance World Championship. The circuit's layout spans 5.543 kilometres in a clockwise direction, featuring 15 turns and 8 straights. The track is characterised by sweeping corners and wide straights, with an unusual design that separates a lengthy back straight from the pit straight via a single tight hairpin. Track widths range from 16 to 22 metres, giving drivers flexibility in their racing lines and improving overtaking opportunities. High-speed sections regularly exceed 300 km/h, with the longest straight stretching 920 metres. In 2016 the circuit was fully resurfaced and several corners were reprofiled to emphasise mechanical rather than aerodynamic grip. Spectators benefit from excellent viewing facilities across multiple grandstands. The Main Grandstand sits strategically along the main straight opposite the start and finish line, offering views of the pit lane alongside the first and final turns. Grandstands K and F each accommodate up to 18,500 spectators facing Turns 1 and 7 respectively, whilst the Hill Stand provides open-air panoramic views from Turns 9 to 14. Combined grandstand and corporate suite capacity totals 32,000, with additional hospitality options including the Paddock Club and Corporate Suites. Located approximately 60 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur city centre and accessible via the North-South Expressway, the circuit welcomes visitors to Malaysia's premier racing destination for unforgettable race weekends.
